Grief, Loss and Pain… Forgive and Let Go
Loss Is A Part Of Life
I have been in existence for 42 years, I have experienced all types of emotions under all types of circumstances. I have lost family members, friends, jobs, lifestyles, and so much more. But the grief attached to losing my mother has by far surpassed any loss thus far.
Before I start, I would like to give gratitude for allowing me to experience my mother as not just a mother, but also a friend, and a mentor for 42 years. I was given the gift to evolve with my mother.
6 years ago I decided to stop drinking, I was tired of being sick and tired and the next step was sobriety. During these last 6 years, I have been able to heal old wounds, forgive those who have hurt me, let go of what no longer serves me and revive dead relationships.
Renewal
One of these relationships was with my mother. I am grateful that I was able to get to know her on a different level. Growing up we see our parents and caretakers as superhumans. As we age, grow up and develop we realize how human and flawed they are. We open our awareness to childhood traumas, generational traumas and fears and FINALLY see them as human.
Healing
Healing relationships can be challenging, letting go of the pain to see the person once again and not what they “did” takes time and true forgiveness.
Resentment is such as easy emotion to encounter towards those who have betrayed, hurt and disappointed you. Resentment is not about forgiveness, it is about letting go. Forgiveness comes from the heart, letting go comes from the mind.
Letting Go
Forgiveness is a tool used to release someone from their mistakes, letting go is a tool used to release yourself from the pain, by not continuously reliving the situation and revisiting the painful thoughts.
We can find comfort in the pain and resentment, lets not hurt ourselves anymore and let it go. Release yourself from the pain, you deserve better so treat yourself better.
